Making a referral

Referrals to my service usually come by word of mouth or self referral.  People seem to find it helpful that I am personally recommended, as it is important to have confidence in the practitioner you are working so closely with. When it comes to the therapeutic process, the relationship with your counsellor is key.

I also receive recommendations from GP and Teachers but I do not guarantee to help outside my expertise. I always explore what sort of help you feel you or your partner/child needs and support you in making a referral to other agencies or professionals where appropriate.

What to expect . . .

I provide both brief and long term therapeutic work, usually on a weekly basis but work flexibly, agreeing with clients what frequency will suit them best. I offer telephone sessions where attendance in person may be difficult as unfortunately the upstairs premises I use is not accessible to wheelchair users. I do not currently offer sessions at weekends.

Sessions usually last between 50 minutes to one hour and are payable upon the completion of the agreed session.  When working with young people, sessions typically last for 45 minutes & relationship counselling up to an hour & a half.

Outdoor working

Sitting in a room across from one another doesn’t work for everyone –

I have recently begun offering walk and talk sessions for clients who might find this a preferable way to meet.  Engaging with another in alternative therapeutic settings such as in nature or whilst walking can promote contact & engagement in a hugely beneficial way. Make an enquiry if you are interested to learn more about this way of meeting.

Fees & booking information

I operate a sliding scale from £35.00 to £55.00* per session up to £65.00 for relationship counselling per hour(*New high rate is in operation from Sept 2024)

The sliding scale is in operation is for those experiencing financial difficulty.  If you wish to discuss a fee lower than the flat fee of £55.00 per session, please feel free to raise this with me. Particularly when working with young people, it is expected that the referring adult will bring any financial issues to the attention of the therapist, rather than curtail the therapeutic process prematurely.

Payment by BACS transfer is expected within 2 days of the completed session or upon receipt of an invoice. Cash/cheque payments are also acceptable and invoices are available if necessary.

If you need to cancel or rearrange our meeting please contact me as soon as possible. Your unused space could be handed on to someone waiting.

The cancellation policy is that appointments that are changed or cancelled within 48 hours of the arranged appointment are subject to 50% of the agreed session fee, as are missed appointments.
